At the heart of the district of Porta Palazzo, in Turin, since a few months has started viadellafucina16, the first experiment of condominium-museum, by initiative of the artist Brice Coniglio (ConiglioViola) and of his group KaninchenHaus. Through a residency programme for artists, whose open call has gathered 442 candidates from all over the world, a majestic building in state of abandon will be requalified, by setting up artworks in the common spaces and by engaging the inhabitants (about 200 of any nationality) in the selection and production of them. The inhabitants will be active actors throughout the process, from the choice to the design, to the setting up of artworks.
The condominium, the utmost place to experience democracy as well as conflict, seems the metaphor of a world in which identities and interests need to find shared paths into mediation and dialogue, hospitality and openness to diversity, also through the conciliator power of art and beauty. Starting from this project, which already became a model for other community projects in various parts of Italy, the members of the Scientific Committee will discuss about the role and responsibility of the contemporary artist, in relation to a new patronage composed no more by individuals, but by a community seeking identity and representation.
viadellafucina16 is a project by Kaninchen-Haus.
It is implemented with the support of SIAE and MiBact, under the “Sillumina Copia privata per i giovani e la cultura”
